After updating my laptop, the sidebar is missing, and after looking quite a bit, I see no way to restore it. There is no Sidebar icon in the upper right anymore.

I'm typing this from my main computer which hasn't been updated.

You can open the bookmarks sidebar via "Ctrl+B". You can find the Sidebar button in the Customize palette and drag it to the toolbar for easy access.

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
