Cannot edit calendar events based on invitations

When I myself create a calendar event from scratch, I can edit it any time, via right mouse click/edit, or double click/click edit. I can edit this data anytime, both still while adding it the first time, or also after saving at any later time point.

In contrast, when I put an event in my calendar via mail invitation and clicking "accept", it shows up in my calenar, but I cannot modify it. On right click, "edit" is grayed out, and on double click, there is no edit field to click.

I'd like to e.g. set a category (like "travel" to be able to visually mark dates that need preparation, modify its name to be more specific, or add descripton text, e.g. the link for the video conference so that I have it available directly when it starts).

What I have tried so far:

  • unaccept it, but still I cannot edit it via right or double click.
  • copy and paste it as a new entry, but the problem persists

I use Thunderbird 91.9.0 now, but the problem exists for quite a while.

Meanwhile I discovered an imperfect workaround: one can click on a not-editable "invitation event", convert to a task, edit the task, and convert it back to an event. This works, and the new event can also be edited at a later time point, but

  • this duplicates the original event (need to delete the original one manually or the day will be overcrowded, and be sure to delete not the new one in case you changed e.g. location/description but not the name)
  • the attendence flag is lost

I agree it makes sense to somehow protect invited events, but I feel editing is rather important than dangerous. Maybe this problem can be solved sometime. Anyway, I'd like to express a big THANK YOU to all developers of Thunderbird and addons, I appreciate your work, efforts and time.
