Hello Erik.

Without a screenshot, it's hard to know what exactly is happening, but you may want to go into View > Toolbars and select the toolbars you want to be shown and deselect the ones you don't. If you go into View > Toolbars > Customize..., you can even customize where and how the various icons and items will appear in the interface. From there, you can also restore the interface to its default configuration by clicking Restore default set.

In Firefox 3.6 on Windows you can hide the menu bar via "View > Toolbars" or via the right click context menu on a toolbar.

* If the menu bar is hidden then press and hold the Alt key down, that should make the Menu bar appear (Firefox 3.6 on Windows) (see Restore the Menu bar in Firefox).
* Make sure that you have the Navigation Toolbar and other toolbars visible: View > Toolbars .
* If items are missing then see if you can find them in the View > Toolbars > Customize window.
* If you see the item in the Customize window then drag it back from the Customize window to the Navigation toolbar.
* If you do not see that item then click the Restore Default Set button in the View > Toolbars > Customize window.

Morbus, followed your instructions >to customize but can't find "restore default set" from there. 'without a screen shot' the bar I'm talking about is at the very top of screen with a Firefox logo at left and minimize, restore, close icons at right. Covering where the bookmarks, favorites, etc. are supposed to be. I put it there on accident from "files" I think. thanks for the help. this thing has me A-Nnoyed!

I'm sorry, but without a screenshot, I can't be sure of what you're talking about, unless you know what it's called. Is it the title bar? is it the menu bar? I don't know...

As for the Restore default set button, it's right there, near the bottom right of the popup window. I hope you find it.

cor-el Pushing Alt drops the bookmarks, history etc. bar down where I can see/get to it. Progress! but then it goes back up under the brown bar after I push any other key. If thats how it's gonna be I'll deal with it unless you know how to make the permanent. Thanks for all your help guys!

Oh, I see.

If you want to make the menu bar always visible, you can go into View > Toolbars > Menu bar. Press ALT or F10 if you can't see the menu bar to make it temporarily visible. You can use it then, as normal. Unless you click on something else before clicking the menu bar.
