using version 3.6.16 on windows 7 ultimate this happened only this morning when i opened firefox i usually click on the [+] tab to open a new tab in the same window but this time it does NOT open a new tab. Ctrl+T does NOT open a new tab but Ctrl+shift T opens a previously closed tab (opened by right-clicking a link in one tab and selecting "Open link in new tab". Using [File] [New Tab] does NOT work either. No recent changes (updates or plug-ins) as far as I can recall or am aware of.

This issue can be caused by the Ask.com toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
