I have Firefox 4.0 on a Mac OS 10.6 (snow leopard). I am being prompted to upgrade to Firefox 4.0.1 but cannot connect to the "update server"

When you click the "update" button, the moving bar/cursor just stays in perpetual motion. I have tried on several occasions to complete a download, at all times of the day and at night, but the connection never goes through. This is a home based iMac computer.

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded
