I have tried everything I can read here, but my "bird" won't swallow a signature file, and instead puts gibberish in it's place.

As stated in the question about signature files. I can put one in for each and every message, but cannot make a permanent one. Is there a newer version I don't have??

Here is the seemingly permanent gibberish that appears on each and every message I compose in place of where the signature files is supposed to be.... -- ÐÏ?ࡱ?á

It won't go away, and I can't create my own. I cannot choose fonts or sizes or bolding,... nothing.

Thanks, but no go. Come to think of it, I had been using my signature file for years, but when I updated TB about 4 months ago, whamo! Gibberish started. I have used many different text editors to no avail. I have even tried to make a JPG and PNG signature, but no luck. Word, Notepad, Write, Paint, PhotoImpact, you name it.

Signature files that contain images or files from a remote server have been known to cause problems.

Thunderbird does not store signature files in your profile. The user creates the signature, places it in some folder, and then tells Thunderbird where to find it.

If it is happening with every message, then maybe the signature itself is corrupt. You would not be able to load it properly and would not be able to edit it with Thunderbird.

Check the local file that contains your signature. You can open HTML files with notepad or any other simple text editor. Do not use a word processor! Check inside the file for the gibberish!

If you know HTML you can design your own new signature with Notepad, if necessary. Or, try using a more simple signature. Or, find a friend who can help you get a copy of a sig that you can customize for your purposes.

If you change signature files, remember to tell TB where they are located.
