"Please bring back the option browser.search.showOneOffButtons"

The underlying code that supported that pref is gone, and won't be coming back in Firefox. An extension like Classic Theme Restorer is needed to "restore" the old Search Bar scheme.

Or try a UserStyle like this - https://userstyles.org/styles/122214/firefox-search-bar-show-engine-names-firefox-43 - to get "retro" features for the new Search Bar scheme.

hi, that preference was only there for a transitional phase and never intended to be maintained for longer unfortunately (originally it was even planned to drop it in version 38). the bug is 1119250, but please only comment there if you have something substantially new to add.
