Garbled/undeciperable characters on menus and toolbars

After upgrading to version 45.0, the program loads but presents menus that appear to be symbols or a language other than english. Symbols are to small to tell exactly what they are. This was a generic update to TB per the "programs" request. (It said do you want to update, I said yes. Simple as that)

Tried deleting and reinstalling; tried deleting and reverting back to previous version that worked. Running windows 7. Even tried system restore all to no avail

It was suggested that I open TB in safe mode and reset. That worked once. Garbled menus returned next time I opened TB and now safe mode will not fix the problem.

Using the default theme. It's also interesting that the "welcome message" (as shown in the screen shot) appears in clear text. I don't know if that's meaningful or not.

I would like to continue to use TB as my email client but this issue has rendered it unusable.

Any help/things to try would be greatly appreciated as right now I'm at my wits end.

When you start in safe mode, do you see the continue in safe mode dialog? is it garbled?

I have a sneaking suspicion that you have a corrupt font file in windows.

open the fonts in control panel and check specifically Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Arial and Verdana

I think it will be one of those.
