I use filters to move messages into various folders and would like to be able to specify the identity associated with each such message so that when I reply to the message, the reply is sent from the correct identity.

If the filter condition is based upon an email address, it seems to use that identity already. But if the filter condition is based upon a From address, it seems to use the default identity, which is not what I want.

The filter in Eudora had that capability with a "Make Personality =" action.

Filters in Thunderbird just move messages. There is no mechanism for a filter to influence the identity associated with a message.

I use a mix of add-ons to help get this right. Folder Account lets you associate a particular identity with each folder. Correct Identity can provide colours and warnings if you use an inappropriate identity.

In theory, Thunderbird is supposed to use the address to which an incoming message was sent when composing a reply, but it doesn't seem to do this reliably. (If it did, we wouldn't have the many add-ons that exist to fix these issues.)
