We understand that you are having some trouble with the add-ons you have in your profile. We expect you might be seeing disabled Legacy add-ons, or see that some of your add-ons were disabled after you updated to Firefox 57. We are happy to help.

In Firefox 57, The WebExtensions API enables add-ons to be more secure and perform better with your browser. Unfortunately not all of them were updated to this new standard. To check if yours were, see arewewebextensionsyet.com. We also created a feature to help you find a replacement for your favorite add-on. Read more here.

To find replacements for your legacy add-on:

  1. Go to ‘about:addons,’ click ‘Legacy Extensions,’ and
  2. Click the button for ‘Find a Replacement’.

If a replacement doesn’t exist or isn’t helpful, please use this utility to find recommended alternatives. If you don’t find a suitable replacement, please head over to the add-ons forum for help. We expect legacy add-ons to continue migrating even after Firefox 57.

There’s also a community-sourced list of alternatives on Google Docs.

Due to other changes in Firefox, we can’t delay the switch to WebExtensions APIs. We’re here to help you find alternatives to your favorite extensions. To start, use this utility to find recommended alternatives. If not, please head over to our forum to ask for help.

What add-ons are compatible in Firefox 57? You can search addons.mozilla.org for compatible extensions here: https://mzl.la/2wFQ19a

All I can say about that is that it has been announced for over two years now, developers were given opportunity to update their extensions.

The fact that some of them are not available on this new system means the developers have failed to update their code or no longer actively developing it which from a security perspective means you are better off.

If you really need something specific and can't find a proper alternative, then you need to question the developers with the same vigor as you are showing your discontent here to get them to do it. Technology cannot forever remain on the older more insecure system to accommodate such things. Your gripe sholdn't be with Firefox or Mozilla, but rather with the commitment or lack thereof from the developers.

Security and advancement will always take precedence.

Understand what you say and I agree with you! I'm sorry if I was a little abrupt but when you've gotten used to things and the way an app works, the total or partial change seems less useful and convenient! Is there a forum for all developers who contribute with their add-ons and can I express my complaints or should I do it individually in each of them? What is suggested to me?Thank you anyway!!!!

Trust me, I completely understand your frustration, I have addons that through no fault of their developers have become either less capable or outright broken due to the API they no longer have access to. Unfortunately for the time being you need to check their support avenues and contact them to see where they stand with it, if any attempts has been made at all or what they have in the works. For example what affects me personally are DTA, GM, NS, FG and a few things that their developers have alpha builds available or are working on making a full release.

Some of them have tried to reinvent their code and make it work within the ecosystem, even with the added restrictions, but some have had to cut certain features and introduce lite versions. It is sad to see it happen but unfortunately progress demands some sacrifice.

My hope is that in time, with more robust API, those things can be mitigated. In the meantime, you can stay on ESR as long as you can (through 2018 IIRC) to keep them functioning or even 56 for the time being until 57 is ironed out and 59 is officially rolled out.

Secure from what? I mean how many problems were there, in the days since Addons were in their heyday people have become very inept on how they work, and where to get them, if they were unsecured it was Firefox's fault, not the user.

If you don't know, then that's part of the problem and since everyone's ineptitude (users and developers alike) is always blamed on the browser (even though it is the user that makes bad decisions or developers who do a poor job exposing them), it is taking steps to eliminate that by no longer facilitating the whatever goes mentality. You can no longer say the developer screwed you over because the browser allowed it. You're welcome.

Really?? Don't you think WE ALL sacrificed more then enough?

How so? Please enlighten me.

This falls upon Firefox not caring about the people who faithfully use or have used it now, and trying to 'beat' Chrome on everything. This shouldn't be a competition, and I am on the verge of leaving Firefox behind because I can easily use all the Addon's i used to once have here on Firefox, on Chrome... So the demise of Firefox to beat Chrome was brought on by Firefox itself, it's now losing more and more to Chrome then in the past because of this BS!!

Your complaining is not the signal of the "faithful" and if you don't realize that EVERYTHING is a competition, then you haven't been paying attention. Standards are evolved based on action, not inaction.

By your own statement, everything sucks, but if you feel there is a browser out there that will continue giving you what you want and secure you at the same time, by all means have at it. So if you think Chrome, which by your logic Firefox is copying to beat, is better - then you clearly have no clue what you are complaining about and by all means go enjoy being a commodity whose privacy is traded for their gain, while giving you a bloated locked down browser that is not open to review and bogs down your system resources to a crawl. If that's what you prefer, by all means, go for it and enjoy it. We will survive the loss of you.

"WE ALL sacrificed more then enough" - that type of thinking is either maudlin or pathetic.

Get a grip on reality - it's software that people use, or they don't - not something to be faithful towards. Firefox was changed - the extensibility has been changed; get used to it or move on to something that you like better.

I "get" your disappointment with losing your favorite extensions all at once when the Firefox 57 update was installed. But that shouldn't have been a surprise, the "clues" have been "sprinkled here and there" for over two years.
