HI, I will take it that you are taking about Sync since you have not said what you are speaking about as there other areas of Mozilla and Firefox that have passwords.

After 3 X's your locked out so I would guess that happened long ago.

Please go to the bottom of the URL and make a bugzilla account and follow the rest of instructions at the bottom. Yes I know what the rest of the URL says, ignore it and just do the stuff at the bottom please and a Supervisor will get in touch with you, possibly by private message here with in the next several days as it is now the weekend. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-response-firefox-sync-verification-email-faq

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Assuming that this is related to a Firefox Account for Sync and other services. aka FxA

"After pasting the correct authorization code ..."

Why "paste" that code? Are you unable to click the hyperlink that is in the email that you were sent? Maybe you are using an email client and not using a web mail portal like Gmail or Yahoo!Mail. The hyperlink should work fine with either an email client (as long as Firefox is the default browser) or with webmail - but web mail that was opened with the Firefox Profile that you are resetting the FxA password for.

It has been a few years (like the older 1.1 version of Sync last used in Fx28) since I tried doing a "paste" of that code - didn't work then due to like 10 characters in the hyperlink not being in what I copied. Can't paste what isn't copied.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.

If clearing cookies didn't help then It is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
