I have tried to enable two-step authentication for Firefox using Authy 2-factor Authentication app for several times, but to no avail. Prior to trying to enable it for Firefox, I succesfully enabled two-factor authentication for my Facebook, Google and Microsoft accounts. After trying it for Firefox, I also did it for my PayPal account, so the Authy app doesn't seem to be the problem here. I tried typing the six numbers with and without space in between and multiple times in two consecutive days, bot nothing seems to work. I read the QR code succesfully and added Firefox on Authy, but the code just always seems to be incorrect (I'm not sure how to translate it in english, I am using Firefox in Finnish, see the attached image). I censored all the codes in the image.

I would really like to get this to work, as two-step authentication seems to be a good way to make my account a lot more secure.

Same trouble as the OP recently. I set up 2-factor a while ago, but since the codes are never valid, I just have to burn a 1-time code on the rare occasion Firefox triggers 2f authentication.

It seems I'm not alone, and my phone gets time from my provider in Canada, and my PC gets time from Microsoft who should be reliable.

hi dr, I think this article will help you, https://blog.mozilla.org/services/2018/05/22/two-step-authentication-in-firefox-accounts/

I'm sorry Dinushi, the article you provided didn't help at all. I have tried to enable the two-step authentication as shown in the article, but like Matt said, the codes are never valid.

I can only read the QR code and add Firefox in my Authy app, but can't go any further to actually enable the two-step authentication. The codes that Authy generate just don't work.

If the code isn't working then there might be time or time zone issues with the device that generates the code.

You can compare the code as generated by this extension.

Okay so I tried another Android app called FreeOTP+ and that seems to work fine, I succesfully enabled and tested two-step authentication for my Firefox account. The codes it generates work. I just hoped I could've used the same app that I use for all my other accounts.

Any ideas why Authy is working for my Facebook, Google, Microsoft and PayPal accounts, but not for Firefox? Especially as Authy is mentioned first in the list of applications that Firefox suggests for use in two-step authentication: Secure your Mozilla account with two-step authentication

I wouldn't want to change my 2FA application just because it doesn't seem to work with Firefox, I really like that app otherwise. Anyone have the same problem with Authy?

Did you compare the codes as generated by the two app to see if there is a time difference?

It is possible that there are some parameters in the secret code that aren't supported by your Authy app.

Did you check for updates of this app ?

Hi Cor-el

I tried that addon in Firefox - codes in Google Authenticator are different, and change at different times.

Huh. Apparently my phone wasn't getting time updates from the network. That would do it.
