Just copied the contents of our old Win7 laptop Thunderbird profile to a new Win10 TB profile. The new Win10 already had TB installed and had 2 accounts. 1 pop account (AOL same email address acct copied form the Win7 TB early last year when the new W10 purchased) and 1 Comcast imap account with a new email address never used on the old Win7 laptop. When I copied the Win7 profile contents I knew it would replace the pop account (only used to receive email with links, etc) with the up to date Win7 messages and local folders which is what I wanted to do. What I did not expect is that the imap account would not be there. The one local folder that was created on the Win10 TB was also missing but I simply copy the 2 files with the folder name from the Win10 backup and now that folder is there along with the local folders transferred from Win7 TB. I tried copying the Imap folder which was just under the profile folder from the Win10 backup and the account is still not on the Win10 current TB. Is there another file that the transfer overwrote that I must find in the backup?

Just add the IMAP account again in Thunderbird. The beauty of IMAP is the folders and mail will download again when it is recreated in Thunderbird.

I strongly suggest you delete anything you copied with regard to IMAP folders as they will just be useless and make finding things in the future messy. Their existence will ensure they will not be used when you add the account again. (Existing folders are never reused by a newly added account IMAP or POP)

Thank, I will re add the IMAP account after I remove the copied IMAP folder.

What I don't understand is I just bought a Win10 desktop in November and went through the same migration process and it worked fine. I installed the latest version of TB, did not set up any accounts and then copied the contents of the profile folder from the old Win7 PC and added to the new profile folder letting it replace whatever was a duplicate. It worked correctly having my customized layout, IMAP accounts from both Comcast and AOL and 3 other AOL Pop accounts. In fact I did the process twice as it took a while to get Win10 versions of all the programs I used on Win7 and I kept using the old win7 desktop until all my programs and files were on the new W10 desktop.
