Sorry to say that the above solution did not resolve my issue.

I checked JAVA and found that I did not have any JAVA (old or new) on my Windows 10 Pro version 21H2, installed 12/28/2021; OS Build 19044.1586. I did install the latest JAVA version, recheck Expedia, but still cannot use it.

I also see this note from Java: "Firefox no longer provides NPAPI support (technology required for Java applets)

As of September, 2018, Firefox no longer offers a version which supports NPAPI, the technology required to run Java applets. The Java Plugin for web browsers relies on the cross-platform plugin architecture NPAPI, which had been supported by all major web browsers for over a decade. The 64 bit version of Firefox has never supported NPAPI, and Firefox version 52ESR is the last release to support the technology. It is below the security baseline, and no longer supported.

Java applications are offered through web browsers as either a Java Webstart application (which do not interact with the browser once they are launched) or as a Java Applet (which might interact with the browser). This change does not affect Web Start applications, it only impacts Java Applets.

Developers and System administrators looking for alternative ways to support Firefox users should see this blog regarding Launching Web Start applications. RELATED INFORMATION

Any Thoughts? Thank you, Dave

So I can try to replicate the issue... Are you logging in with an account you made or are you using your Google, Apple, or Facecrook account?  ;-)) Did you try Firefox in Safe Mode? What security software are you running?

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content. You can click the shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection. You can check the Web Console for relevant-looking messages about blocked content.

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Thank you for all of the help.

More troubleshooting >>Give Firefox a tune up >>Diagnose issues >>Try clearing the startup cache This works

but I lost all add - ons and customizations such as 4 rows of quick starts

I am now trying to rebuild the 4 rows of quick starts and get my password manager extension to work

I'll try the other suggestions once I get back to yesterday's FireFox setup

Did you use the refresh feature in Firefox and create a new profile ?

when you use the refresh feature in Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks and history, Form Data, tabs) is automatically imported. The current Firefox profile folder will be moved to an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.

It is possible to recover data from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
