Firefix won't launch, and am concerned about my bookmarks

Am unable to launch Firefox from my desktop after many tries. Have several years' worth of bookmarks and so am concerned about retrieving them if i were to uninstall and then reinstall Firefox. Had run the new 3.6 update a few days ago, but have been using Firefox since then.
