My firefox was running slow and so I search up how to increase the performance of the firefox browser "http://www.tutzone.org/2009/01/increase-firefox-speed-by-10-30x.html" and so I was wondering if this method of increasing browser speed is legitimate?

That article has some good tricks, but some will actually slow down the browser. My advice is to install the Fasterfox lite addon (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fasterfox-9148/), which includes most of those tricks in the article, but in a simplified user interface. Also, here are the most important things I did to speed up my browser: (1) Install Adblock Plus if you haven't already. (2) Wait a couple days for Firefox 7 to come out, it has way better memory management.
