I downloaded the newest version of Firefox, the browser window comes up, but when I type in a web address, it says it cannot connect.

I previously had Firefox and it was working. I downloaded another version about a year or so ago and I had this same problem - it couldn't connect to the web address entered. My other browsers work fine. I trashed the old Firefox and downloaded the newest version today. Same thing happened - the browser window opens like everything is fine, but it cannot connect to a web address typed into the search bar. How do I correct this?
