why after ff 14 update is macbook pro running hot?
Just updated to firefox 14 on macbook pro 2011. My machine is now running significantly hotter, ~ 25° f hotter. With Activity Monitor open I see that firefox is using about 15% of cpu, even when another program is active. By comparison, Chrome uses less than 1% (both with mid-20's # of threads). The temperature drops as soon as I quit out of firefox—what's going on?

Try to reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings. This simple step will eliminate many Firefox problems with only one click.
Also, this can possibly be caused if some sort of hardware (RAM, CPU, etc.) in your laptop is starting to fail. Not saying this is the case, but something to keep in mind.

Hmm, resetting seems to have done the trick. I see in activity monitor that the % of the cpu used by ff is way down now. Tylerdowner, thanks for the tip.
