Html5 video elements not rendering (sound does work though)
FF 14.0.1.
All drivers up to date (although this stupid laptop does use that NVidia Optimus shit that tries to save battery by auto switching between embedded Intel GPU and dedicated NVidia GPU. It has caused problems with other software in the past. But FF did previously work fine, I am not sure what triggered the change).
[video] elements are not rendering. The video chrome (play/pause/progress/volume etc) appears fine, just not the actual video. The video is playing, just not rendering, I can see the progress bar move normally, and I can hear the sound.
Flash video is working fine, just not html5.
If I restart FF in safe mode it does work as expected. However disabling my only 2 extensions (Fiddler and Firebug) in normal mode still prevents it from working, so I'm assuming FF Safe Mode is not just disabling extensions but also doing more under the covers.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
See also: Safe Mode. Please note that manually selecting/deselecting the hardware acceleration in Firefox Options requires a restart to take effect.

Thanks guys, turning off hardware acceleration did get the video rendering.
But the next question then is why? What triggered the change? html5 video definitely used to work with hardware acceleration enabled.
And what drawbacks are there to leaving hardware acceleration disabled?
If you have changed any gfx.*, or layers.* keys in about:config, you can try to right-click and Reset all the changes. Alternatively you can also check if this happens in a new profile. Can you also please paste the contents of the Graphics section in Tools (Alt + T) > Troubleshooting Information, plus a link of the problematic page. In some cases we may be able to help.
