I am on an older computer that works just fine, but the processor is too slow for the flash upgrade, nor do I have the other system requirements. What can I do to get rid of this nagging bar? I do not mind upgrading to a lower version of flash, providing it is light on memory;but don't know how to or where to get it. I have seen some archives of older versions but they require knowledge of how to do zip files, or how to do the download as it isn't automatic. I currently have something called "shockwave flash 9.0.45.0". The names are another confusing thing. They talk about shockwave flash, adobe flash player, adobe flash; are they all the same thing? michelle

Flash 9.0.45.0 is really old. You should at lest use the last Flash 10.3.183.29 version.

Adobe Forums: Where can I find direct downloads of Flash Player 10.3 for Windows or Macintosh?:

Firefox 6.0.2 is also not really recommended anymore.

Which XP service pack do you have?

Maybe try out the current Firefox 10.0.9 ESR release if you meet the system requirements.

cor-el, thanks for your input. The problem I keep having is that I can't get the system requirements for any of the flash versions except 11, the latest. I have looked on a number of sites as well as adobe. There is no point to download something that won't work with my system, and overloads my memory. My processor is a pentium 3, about 927 mhz. The service pack is 2. Another problem I keep having is that for the older versions they keep telling me to "unzip" the file. I don't know what that means, or of course, how to do it. Really need some help and understandable directions as am new to computers. This one works great, and I resent these companies putting me in the position of having to buy a new computer just so I can get their newest programs, which in reality are often not as good as the old ones. I cannot afford another computer.

NO THE PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVED. I DID NOT CHOOSE THAT ANSWER, YOUR SOFTWARE DID WITH NO INPUT FROM ME!!! I did not choose this answer just because I replied to it! Why is it saying this answer was chosen. Obviously I still have issues but your software says the answer is solved when all I did was politely reply with my continuing concerns. This isn't very fair. my problem is still not solved but you are saying it is, so now I have to go elsewhere for help. michelle

Lady, I don't know what you did, but this is sure an unfair way to get points for solutions. I expect you will delete these posts, but I never chose your answer as solving my problem. michelle9

I've removed the chosen solution from this thread as you appeared to have clicked the wrong link in the response mail.

The requirements for Flash 10.3 seem to be the same as for Flash 11 (2.33GHz), so Flash 10 versions and later won't work for you.
This is the last Flash 9.0 version (Flash Player 9.0.289.0) as a stand alone file (Adobe only has a large archive):

You can inspect and modify some prefs on the about:config page.

  • set the plugins.hide_infobar_for_outdated_plugin pref to true
  • set the plugins.hide_infobar_for_missing_plugin pref to true
  • set the plugins.update.url pref to an empty string
