Firefox won't load SOME pictures and SOME graphics from Huffington Post; Explorer will load them
This is a problem that ONLY occurs with Huffington Post. I haven't had trouble with any other websites. With the Huffington Post site, the big photo at the top of the page loads, but none of the smaller photos on the page load--all just white blanks. The other thing that is not loading is the names in the line at the top of the page which lists various sections of the website starting with FRONT PAGE, POLITICS, BUSINESS, ENTERTAINMENT...... and ending with ALL SECTIONS. However, when I go to Internet Explorer, the Huffington Post website loads perfectly.

Some images come from i.huffpost.com/ So you can check that you aren't blocking images from servers like that.
If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
- Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
- Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
- Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
- Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "Block Images from..." then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.image pref should be 1.
There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.

I appreciate your help, but I went through most of the list you gave me ( couldn't find permission default image preference anyplace)and couldn't find anything that should be messing up the Huffington Post site. Also, I can't understand why it would just spontaneously start acting weird.
Did you try Safe mode?
Can you open such a missing image in a Firefox tab, assuming that you can see the URL of such images in Tools > Page Info > Media ?
If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flash Block that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
