Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
- Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
- In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
- In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
- Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.
no effect on the problem. I can browse ebay without problem. it is only when I try to log in to My Ebay that the crash occurs. It doesn't happen with any other secure site - Facebook, youtube, banking, or on IE
Do you have any submitted crash reports?
the automatic crash report box is ticked so I presume so
- Enter about:crashes in the address bar (that's where you enter your website URL) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
- Copy the 5 most recent crash ID's that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your response here.
Thank you for your help!

Have youve tried resetting Firefox
not yet - didn't want to lose any data - passwords, bookmarks etc.
You will not lose Bookmarks history etc. by resetting Firefox.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Did the reset, didn't lose bookmarks, lost the three windows I had open with about ten tabs in each. So with one window open, 3 tabs I opened a tab for ebay but as soon as I selected 'my ebay' - same thing again. Info tag bottom left said 'waiting for b.stats.ebay.com'
just asked for 'about:crashes' but no crashes listed after bp-93ec24c7-ddbf-41b7-8530-ef0d72130710 10/07/2013 12:17 even though crash reports is active.

I think you are missing the point here - this is a problem others have had, directly related to the opening of a secure page on ebay and to nothing else. I think it deserves a more direct course of action i.e. between Mozilla and Ebay. What do you think?
I get the feeling that you think I'm a developer or a Mozilla employee. I'm not. The people that answer questions here are users just like you, volunteering their time.
If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. (You'll need to be on the latest version of Firefox to submit feedback). Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues.
Thank you for explaining that to me. I will follow your advice. By the way, this post appeared within our conversation:
