I have a POP mail server for my email. I seem to be getting a lot of emails that are being sent to my junk folder, however when I click the "junk" folder in Thunderbird, there is nothing there. TB doesn't seem to download any of my junk emails.

How am I able to change this? It seems like Outlook does the exact same thing, but I don't know how to change it on my email account..

How do you know emails are being sent to your junk folder if nothing is there? That statement does not make any sense.

Junk filtering is a Thunderbird thing and here are the instructions for managing that. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls

If your email provider uses Spam filtering at their server Thunderbird has no control over that and with a POP account Thunderbird will not sync with any folder other than the Inbox so you will have to use the providers web mail page to manage those messages and filters.

Thunderbird uses the word Junk instead of Spam to try to avoid confusion of who is doing what. There is still a lot of confusion when it comes to these two items and who is placing the labels on messages.

I'm able to see the junk mail when I logon to webmail through my ISP website. They use the word "junk folder" on the website so I'm not sure if they are differentiating between junk/spam.

As stated earlier, POP mail only syncs with the Inbox. If you want to sync with all your providers folders you need to switch to IMAP email protocol.
