when I used to pull up Mozilla, there were 6-8 little rectangular boxes picturing where I had been in the past, how do make those re-appear?

Was it Firefox's new tab page, the one that appears when you press Ctrl+t? To make that your start page, see these articles for steps:

If not, it could have been a "speed dial" page created by an add-on. If you used Firefox's Reset feature (maybe to speed up Firefox?), then the add-on was removed and you would need to reinstall it. By the way, you can tell the Reset feature ran because you would have an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop with a semi-randomly-named folder inside it.

That would be the about:newtab page that shows tiles with recently visited websites.

See this article about the New Tab page (about:newtab):

You can check the home page setting:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.
