I cannot login at nike.com. Mouse over does not drop down login window.

I cannot login at nike.com. I've updated to the latest Firefox, add-ons & plug-ins, I've even started Firefox in Safe Mode..

At nike.com, mousing over "login" causes a drop down window which allows for login, however, in Firefox, nothing happens, and clicking on it does nothing either. Java and Flash are installed and up-to-date according to the Firefox checker.

Using another browser allows for proper website function and logging in.. but Firefox is my preferred browser and I'd much rather NOT have to switch my daily browser.

Did this used to work and stop working recently, or has it never worked for you in Firefox?

Here's some general advice:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

By any chance does your PC have a touch screen? Users have occasionally reported problems using the mouse on sites that are designed to handle touch input.

@jscher2000 Thanks for your response! I did try all that you've said.. I actually spent about 1hr searching online for solutions, followed the clear cache & cookies methods, I do have a pretty large hard drive, maybe I should give it some time? So far nothing is helping.. I jumped on my laptop that has an older 33.1.1 version.. it's pretty much a stock install, no add-ons, plug-ins, and I still can't log in..

I really only started using nike.com this week, so I have no idea if it used to work before or not.. I do know that if i switch to another browser it works just fine. have you tried mousing over/clicking on "log in" at nike.com yourself? THANKS!

edit: my desktop is NOT touchscreen, and yes, my laptop IS touchscreen

when I mouse over "log in", the status bar says:

"javascript:void(0);"

if that helps identifying a problem?

The javascript:void(0); is a script that basically says not to loading a page when the link is clicked. The "real" action is assigned to that part of the page in a different way.

Both the mouseover and click are working for me on Windows 7. Does the Join button work for you? It should display a form on a white overlay (blacking out the rest of the page).

I don't know whether you use zoom on the page, but to rule out an alignment issue, please press Ctrl+0 (that's a zero) to reset the zoom level to default and see whether that makes any difference.

(The Safe Mode test covers a lot of the more obvious things, so I'm grasping a bit here.)

Thanks! again for responding.. Yes, clicking "Join" works fine.. Ugh!, I'm so used to having a 2 OS setup, it used to be XP & Windows 7, but now I'm running Windows 8.1 on both of my machines.. So my troubleshooting hands are tied! I'm at pulling a few more hairs to removing Win8 and reverting back to Win7 -gRrrrr...

edit: I'm now downloading the 55 Windows updates that were available.. I'll see if that makes any difference...? (HA!)

For possible future reference, this thread covers touchscreen-related issues: mouse hover drop down menu not shown.
