Wrong e-mail address selected
Since the latest update I've had a problem with the e-mail address selection. Specifically, as I am addressing an e-mail, Thunderbird offers a list of possible selections as I type. When I select the one I want, it uses the wrong one. My selection can be by hitting "Enter" or a mouse click. The maddening part is that it appears correct, however when mail is sent, it goes to the wrong address. It is also unpredictable; it does not always fail. It does seem timing related however. If I am speeding along with routine stuff it happens more frequently. It also seems more prevalent when there is a list of addressee's. Another observation, the wrong address is not the next one in the list, but it is always later in the alphabet.
I know, hard to troubleshoot, but hopefully someone has had the problem and is more eloquent in describing the symptoms.

I was told that this would be solved when they sent out the next update which I was told was 'soon' about a month ago, maybe more... I am to the point that I'm seriously looking at changing my e-mail client... this is not acceptable for me.
Frustrating. Otherwise a great system; been using it since Version 1.0. Got embarrassing a couple of times too.
What version of Thunderbird are you using? What OS?
This has been fixed for me.
I am running Thunderbird 31.5.0 on windows 7 on a Thinkpad.
I'm on a Dell XPS 430 Vista OS and TB 31.5.0 It should be fixed.
I notce you mention it is more likely when working at speed. So wondering if the autosearch is still pulling potential email addresses into the drop down and thus causing a misselect. Only a thought.
If you can test further to see if this is the case. In other words, do not select the email address too quickly. Put in about 4 letters and wait, then select.
Try to ascertain whether this does not occur if you are deliberately slow allowing time for the search to complete. But it does occur if you quickly select the one you want as it is near top of list. Also mention if this occurs when you select one from the drop down list or whether you select the top one the autosearch has selected.
All info will be useful to help the bug developers locate and fix.
