How do I import bookmarks from an old win / FF installation wqhere win has failed. New win and FF install on new disk. Old files accessable

more options

Old installation of Windows and FF where Win stopped working. Have reinstalled on new disk win and FF and want to import the bookmarks from the old install on the old disk. The files are still accessible. None of the options listed explain importing from FF to FF other than creating a new profile which will not work in this case.

Just as a footnote, when you explore your old hard drive, you will be looking in:

E:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

(the drive letter may vary)

If Windows hides the AppData folder on the old drive, you can turn off hiding of files and folders: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files

Then you can drill down and find the bookmarkbackups folder containing the .jsonlz4 files.

From the new install of Firefox, click on Bookmarks > Show all bookmarks. There is a Star icon with a two arrows where you can select where to import or to restore the bookmarks to. Just navigate to the profile folder of the old disk.
