I updated Flash in Firefox 42.0 to version 2.0.0.235. It crashed 90% of the time, even with hardware acceleration off. It does not crash with Flash Protected Mode turned off. I then updated Firefox to 43.0. Flash crashes every time, even with Flash Protected Mode off. No Flash problems on this Win-10 PC with Microsoft Edge or Chrome. Seems that FIrefox 43 and Flash are incompatible. Hopefully Mozilla and/or Adobe will fix in the next release.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Thanks, but as I said in original post, I had protected mode off, and hardware acceleration disabled. Graphics drivers are up to date. But Flash still crashes with Firefox 43.0 and 43.0.1. Backing up to 42.0, Flash works, which leads me to conclude that something in 43.0 broke Flash, and least for me.

I just reinstalled 43.0.1 to demo the crash - these two crashes are when accessing the Adobe Flash test page. Protected mode is off. bp-4559af22-d6e8-4451-9187-289872151222 12/21/2015 11:27 PM bp-1aa7ceac-ee23-45d6-80e7-d540b2151222 12/21/2015 11:25 PM

These earlier crashes are with 42.0 with Protected mode ON. 42.0 does NOT crash with Protected mode OFF. bp-3f8d7352-cc24-48e3-a2ee-683062151222 12/20/2015 4:18 PM bp-037cca84-78b0-48d6-a6cc-834222151222 12/20/2015 4:17 PM

This is not a cure, but should let the web page load without crashing.

Flash block {web link} Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it

Thanks very much, I have tried all the above (graphics acceleration off, latest graphics drivers, and Protect mode off) before coming here - but Flash 43 still crashes. Something was changed between 42.0 and 43.0 that breaks Flash. Thanks for all your suggestions, but the only thing that will make a difference is if Mozilla fixes whatever was broken between those two versions.

disabling it no longer works, protected mode still runs after u disable it from firefox v44 & v45, i open task manager & i see 2 flash processes running (one of the 1 is protected mode), in v40-42 i tried it to & then after disabling it there was 1 flash running, so it means we can no longer disable it

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Flash Player Version: 20.0.0.306 Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, Win IE . . . .) Note: Optional offer: McAfee Security

i said in which ver of firefox disabling protected mode was possible, its kind off a bug report that it can't be disabled anymore despite that there is disable option in settings & About:Config, u can disable protected mode, but protected mode will still work/run
