My mail AOL. Home page co.uk. Firefox gives me France in foreign language.
I got rid of Firefox, it kept giving me pages in French just because I live in France. My home page is aol.co.uk and when I try to access my mail, to opens a page in French. This is not an AOL problem, other browsers do not do this. Only Firefox thinks it knows better, it can tell I am in France and insists I speak in French. So I cannot access my mail account.

hi, have you downloaded an english build from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and set your language preferences accordingly? Settings for web content, pop-ups, fonts, and languages
You can check the order of the installed languages.
- Tools > Options > Content > Languages
Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).
"Clear the cache":
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
I do clear the cache almost every time I go online, and I have been through the language settings and downloaded the Eng UK version by following the above link, which I thank you for, I never knew we had a choice, like so many things I thought we had to put up with the American version. So I downloaded the Eng UK version and installed it, got rid of the French spell checker even though I need it to help me as I do not speak good French. But still it reverted to French on the new one. So now I have uninstalled all Firefox. I think it must be leaving json files or folders and using its own old settings to over ride my choices. I am now going through folders in my computer and finding a very large number of files, bookmarks, all sorts and I wonder if these are being replicated to change settings. I have had to go to another browser for now even though I was happy with Firefox for years.
please try to refresh firefox and see if this can address the issue...
Thank you Philip, I do that on a regular basis as well. My only hope now is destroying everything to do with Firefox in my computer because I think they store it on your computer rather than in their own servers. But I still feel they will do it again, a losing battle. Actually I can save all their old stuff on a spare drive so they wont see it. Then I will try reinstalling the https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ link again ensuring it knows I want Eng UK version. If it still doesnt work I will look around for other browsers. I have had to resort to Chrome in the interim. Also Internet Explorer which I have never liked because of its security nag banners.
Note that some websites automatically redirect you to a site in the local language, based on where your IP locates you. There may not be much that you can do about this unless the website offers a link to an international version or to a version in your preferred language. Such a choice is stored in a cookie, so you need an allow exception to keep such a cookie.
If I install Firefox again using the link to the Eng UK version, I would now try to identify the cookie before it becomes French, but it happens immediately I sign in to my mail page. In a flash. But will look for a cookie before doing that. Its a silly carry on having to do all this just to see your favourite web page in English. I feel that Mozilla should look into this on their software, such a large company should surely be able to correct this. Thank you everyone who has offered me suggestions, whether I will EVER try to use Firefox again is another question.
