Most all videos imbended in Twitter doe not play, If I pop the link out and find in youtube, it plays fine. All in same Firefox browser on my old Win. XP machine. Seems to be getting worse, suspect it has something to do with HTML5 but don't know how to check or update to a good player. And may be some interaction w/twitter how to isolate. before even trying to start video see "this browser does not support video playback" across image of video in twitter mssg. thx

See the new reply below about using the Adobe Primetime plugin to play Twitter video and reply with your experiences.

Oh, yes, the headache continues...

On Windows XP, Firefox cannot decode MP4 media. On newer versions of Windows, it can use the Windows Media Foundation, but Microsoft never released that for XP. As a result, sites that have switched to using an HTML5 video player with MP4 media -- and do not automatically switch to a plugin like Flash when needed -- do not work in Firefox on Windows XP.

The last time I tried to find a workaround was back in May and I gave up in frustration: Video viewing issues with Firefox.

Hopefully someone else can take a fresh look.

Youtube is likely using the Flash Player Plugin since you have WinXP

See https://www.youtube.com/html5 on what your system can support as many will be red instead of blue.

Windows XP has not been supported with updates from Microsoft since April 8, 2014.

A alternative is to try dual booting with a recent linux distro to be more secure and to be able to play HTML5 video. Will need to make sure you have packages like FFmpeg installed. Do try a lighter desktop like XFCE instead of Gnome 3 or KDE.

There is a solution at last! If you force Firefox to use Adobe's Primetime Content Decryption plugin that is distributed by Mozilla using following instructions (Sorry too much side information of significance, can't just copy paste..) it fixes the problem!

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/175591-enable-mp4-h264-aac-html5-video-in-firefox-on-windows-xp-without-flash/

All videos on services like twitter and streamable etc, first video on following test page are now playable for me.

- WXP + Firefox + H264 (vídeos de twitter..) no se reproducen.

- about:config - media.gmp-eme-adobe.forcevisible = true - media.gmp.decoder.enabled = true - media.gmp-eme-adobe.enabled = true (ya estaba)

- Firefox, Menú, Complementos, Herramientas, Buscar actualizaciones. Esto hace que se instale automáticamente el plugin "Módulo de descifrado de contenido Primetime proporcionado por Adobe Systems, Incorporated" versión 17

One of the solution is userscript I created for greasemonkey. This script is showing direct link (or links) on the twitter video in the bottom of the player window. Then you can open this link with your browser media plugin, media player program, download manager, etc.

1. Install addon GreaseMonkey 2. Install script Twitter video links
