How to stop getting notifications about new emails or FB comments

more options

I get MANY notifications as new emails come in or comments from responses to my Facebook posts. Shows up in lower right had corner of my screen. I'm dyslexic (and old) these notifications cause me to lose concentration. I'd like to be able to prevent them. I've tried. I assume they are the result of a setting on Firefox. Please help me figure this out.

This is actually a problem within Windows, according to your specifications. You can fix this by.... 1. right click the windows key (bottom-left) and click System. 2. click Notifications and Actions (left hand side) 3. From there you can customize on behalf of your own liking. Sorting by apps, or just turning them off in general.

One other thing you could try is to turn off notification permission for specific websites that are especially annoying. You can do that on the Permissions panel of the Page Info dialog. Here's how.

While you are on the site sending the notifications (for example, Facebook), call up Page Info using any of these:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Permissions
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
  • click the padlock or "i" icon to the left of the site address, then the ">" icon, then More Information > Permissions

Scroll down to "Receive Notifications" and uncheck the "Use default" box, and then select the permission you prefer -- which I think would be "Block". Changes are saved as you go so you can close Page Info when you're done with it (no Save button needed).
