After restarting my MacBook Pro v. 72.0.1 (64-bit) I discovered there was no history or bookmarks and no passwords. No error message on any of these. No new history is being saved. Is there a way to restore all of the missing data?

1: [v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

And 3 ?

In case errors are reported with "Verify Integrity" close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Working on it - got sidetracked.

Found profile on the right end of the address bar. Has only my profile and everything seems ok, making the second and third links moot.

The last link is scary - am I going to lose everything if I refresh Firefox? When it says to back up & restore - isn't it a little late for that?

Also I did find a bookmarks file in the "Searching This Mac", Firefox file-it is all the files I transferred from my previous laptop. Scrolling down I found a file "Old Firefox Data"-all these files are from the previous computer also.

I also found a file with passwords " Logins & Passwords" in Firefox Lockwise which seem complete-a password from 2 days ago is included. I tried going into several websites and the passwords are working-yay.

I am not able to bookmark any pages, along with today's history, is not working.

And 3?

This is the one I am scared about and I'm wiped out after digging my car out of a snow bank which turned out to be more of an ice bank, I'm fighting a cold and mentally just don't want to start another step until I get some sleep. Hey, we've all been here & that's when I make mistakes.

Thanks so much for you help-I will continue tomorrow.

Refreshing Firefox restored history, bookmarks and passwords.

Thank you.

That was very good work. Well Done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem as this can help others with similar problems.

Note that there is normally no need to refresh Firefox because of this issue. It should be sufficient to remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files. Firefox will rebuild the places.sqlite database from a recent backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
