How to tell which folder/email address new mail has landed in?

So to preface, I have about 8 different emails I use for different purposes, and many of these email addresses have hundreds of unread messages related to various trivial matters such as an account summary for accounts that have had no activity, newsletters, and etc. that I haven't gotten around to deleting yet. So most of my folders and email accounts have unread message icons by them indicating old messages which makes finding which inbox has the new message in it frustrating. Is there an easy way to see where the new messages are without just going and marking all old mail as read (which I don't want to do)?

My solution is not a Thunderbird solution: I use Mailwasher, which shows all incoming email and in which folder they showed up.

Having to use a secondary program to check my email kind of nullifies any utility for me in a mail client unfortunately. . . This problem wouldn't be so frustrating if it didn't take 2-3 clicks depending on how you navigate to get to your inbox.
