Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page; when I'm trying to use code to embed a song
I'm trying to build a web site using notepad. I attempted to embed a song in the head area so that nobody can stop the song from playing, etc. It's an mp3 file, but when I embed it states that additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page.
I then went and updated adobe flash, shockwave, reader. I updated realplayer, media player, java, quicktime, etc. Still no results! I'm all but sure I'm coding this correctly.

Try posting at the Web Development / Standards Evangelism forum at MozillaZine. The helpers over there are more knowledgeable about web page development issues with Firefox.

Can you post a link to that site or the code ?
MP3 files are usually played with the QuickTime plugin, unless you specify a MIME type to select a specific plugin. For WMP you can use type="application/x-mplayer2"
Here is the code:
<object data="superchargers.mp3" type="audio/mp3"> <param name="src" value="superchargers.mp3" autostart="true" hidden="true" loop="false" /> </object>
I was also trying to use this code which left a big box on the page: <embed src="superchargers.mp3" autostart="true" hidden="true" loop="false" />
If I use type as the windows media player would that mean that any computer that does not have that media player installed could not play the song? I will try this right now.
Hi cor-el,
Your type attribute worked. My only question is now.....will it work for everyone? Will they have to have WMP downloaded? Unfortunately, the site is not live yet so no way to tell except on knowledge.
It will only work if you have a plugin installed and enabled that support the specified MIME type. Otherwise you will get an alert about a missing plugin. WMP or a plugin that supports "application/x-mplayer2" is usually more common then a plugin like QuickTime that supports more MIME types like "audio/mp3". If you do not specify a MIME type then the result in unpredictable.
You can see all supported MIME types on the about:plugins page.
is it fair to assume that these other questions also are addressing Android issues? I'm finding it impossible to solve this problem. when I use the computer for larger screen, easier reading, quickly, questions start to be about how the changes will effect computer rather than phone. My issue is for phone & tired of always seeing grayed areas that cannot be displayed because plugin is missing. That I would not disregard for 1 day but this phone issue has been a long one..
