Firefox 35.0.1 will not start on Yosemite 10.10.2 even with clean install either. I'm using v33.1 because it's the only one that will start. I think v34 worked too, but I don't have a copy to test. I happened to still have v33.1 on a backup disk! The last "crash" in my library was 5/24/14 and was for a version older than 33 (31 I think).

The Dock icon for Firefox goes up once then returns to the dock, nothing else that I can find happens! This is in the console log: 3/16/15 18:05:22.620 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (org.mozilla.firefox.182928[11568]) Service exited with abnormal code: 255 This is the console log for v35: 12/13/14 08:06:01.521 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (org.mozilla.firefox.48312[6679]) Service exited with abnormal code: 255

I have Message Inspector info, but the "Add images:" below will not let me upload a .tiff or a .pdf. I get the following error: "Error uploading image Invalid or no image received."

I and I can't figure out how to copy and paste the text.

try to install older version of Firefox

If you can convert the TIFF or PDF to a PNG or JPG image, that can be uploaded.

Updated to v37.0.1 today and it won't start either. Nothing since v33.1 will work.

Hello,

Have you tried a clean install with version 37.0.1. What about creating a new user account on your mac and trying it there?

To see whether this is a problem in your settings, could you try creating a new profile? This is a parallel settings folder and does not replace your existing Firefox profile. The steps on Mac are different than Windows, so rather than list possibly confusing information, I'll refer you to this article: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles.

Note: Please do not use the feature of choosing a non-standard folder location as this can cause data loss.

Any difference?

If the new profile works well, one option would be to selectively move data from your regular profile to the new one. We also could try comparing files to see whether we can spot a problem setting.

When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

I am also following up on bug 1079655 to see if its relevant.

Ok looks like we need to file a separate issue. First can we confirm these few things:

  1. This happens in a clean reinstall-> you already confirmed this
  2. This happens in a new profile-> this response from Jscher is key to determining if its not caused by something that was changed in the profile.
  3. Regression window-> can you please provide the SOURCE information from the about:buildconfig page from both the install of 33.1 and the current 37.0.1

Please do respond, it will not only help other users it will provide the information to start looking for a fix the issue you are running into.

I'm sorry to take so long to get back to this, but I do have some new information. I am now running OS10.10.4. With Firefox 38.0.5 and now, tonight, 39.0, I found a way to get it to run. If I run the app from the .dmg created folder(disk image), they will both work. If I copy it to my applications folder they won't!

I was looking at this command that guigs2 sent me: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p It doesn't work because my Firefox.app is here: Macintosh HD:Applications:Browsers Etc.:Firefox:Firefox.app file://localhost/Applications/Browsers%20Etc./Firefox/Firefox.app/ Terminal: Craigs-Laptop:~ craig$ /Applications/Browsers\ Etc./Firefox/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p Could not find the Mozilla runtime. Craigs-Laptop:~ craig$

When I move Firefox.app from a sub-directory to the Applications directory, everything works!

Sometime after v33 it matters where the app lives! In order to reduce the clutter of hundreds of apps in a list, I created sub-directories (folders) to try and have some order. Firefox now joins the list of apps that MUST be in the file://localhost/Applications/ folder.

Now you know why it wouldn't start, it could not find the Mozilla runtime.
