When multiple tabs are open, one tab randomly moves to a new window

I usually have multiple tabs open in Firefox, and within the last couple of months tabs have started randomly moving to a new window (showing the original tab's page) by themselves. On average this happens about once an hour. It seems unlikely to be due to accidentally clicking too long on a tab header; sometimes it happens when I right-click (but don't select 'Open in new window') on a link on the page. Other times when I've been viewing other programs/Windows Explorer etc with Firefox in the background; the tab moved is always the last tab I was viewing before I changed to another program.

I see from other posts that this bug has been around for several years, and that apparently the only fix is to disable the 'detach&tear tabs' function. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/ However, this function is useful (when I'm the one controlling it, rather than Firefox at random) - is there any fix that will just stop the random 'tab->new window' openings, without disabling the above feature? Thanks Alex

I think that this feature will still be available in the right-click context menu of the tab bar (Move to New Window) when you install the extension. You only can't do this by dragging the tab down into the browsing window.
