Every time I open Thunderbird all my new unread messages automatically show as being read, unless I specifically set them as being unread. in the Tools menu under options I have tried to change the display settings under the advanced tab but nothing seems to work. I have checked the box indicating "Automatically mark messages as read" with "Immediately on display" or "After displaying for 5 seconds" and I have unchecked the box and I still have my new messages always automatically show as being read. What can I do to correct this so my messages will not automatically show as being read?

Nope, Thunderbird is the only place I use this email & I only access it on my PC.

I think you solved it. I got a new PC with windows 10 & I initially set up the mail that came with it but it is way to lame so I installed Thunderbird. I forgot to delete my account on it. Thanks for the help.

I never would have thought of that.
