I remember I used to have emoticons as an option. Today I couldn't find them. I downloaded the "old" emoticons and restarted. Nada. Where are the emoticons?

Not much to add. I don't have the old emoticons nor the new ones. When I go to add-ons, I see that I have 2 old-style smilies (version 2). But when I write an email, I don't see how to find them. And it's not that I just want the old-style, it's just that I can't find any emoticons now, unlike in the past. Perhaps there has been an update . . ?

Basic Thunderbird emotions should be on the 'Formatting Bar' far right position. However, it sounds as if you were using an addon extension.

If you updated to Thunderbird 60* then it is possible the addon is not working or causing a conflict.

Start Thunderbird in Safe mode. open a new write message and see if the emotion icon is now on the 'Formatting Bar'.

If yes, then it is likely you have addon extensions causing a conflict. IMPORTANT: Add-ons not marked as compatible with Thunderbird 60 by their authors will be disabled (this can be reverted via preference extensions.strictCompatibility)

Try allowing compatibility first.

'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab click on 'Config editor' button In top search type : strictComp look for this line: extensions.strictCompatibility note the 'Value' double click on that line to toggle the value. It will also become bold font and say it is UserSet. Close window - top right X click on 'OK'

Restart Thunderbird.
