Hi! When I use Firefox to access a certain website, I cannot relogin after having logged out 'successfully' (I get taken back to the signin page without any prompts or errors). When I relogin, it gives me an error saying "Could not continue: User has 1 session already open". I then have to wait out the 20 minute 'ban'. This does not happen with Google Chrome. Is there a fix for this?

Your ‘logged-in’ status is stored in special cookies.

You go to the site, you try to log in, and it says you are logged in already.

Did you use a different computer/profile to log in before?

Does this also happen in a Private Browsing mode window?

If clearing cookies didn't help then It is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Thanks! I should have mentioned earlier that I'm running an old version of FF (55.0.3) because I pair it up with iMacros for some automation tasks. What I have figured out so far is that the issue does not occur on the latest version of FF and 56.0. I don't wanna update if it can be helped. Are there other options?

Thanks for the comprehensive response. I'm new to programming stuff and has gotten to the conclusion that perhaps the issue is on 'server-side cookies' / sessions? Since I'm using an older version of FF (55.0.3, sorry for not mentioning in my post). The website perhaps initiates security protocols that messes with the sign out process... if so, what are my options aside from upgrading?
