Hi.

I'm using Firefox Quantum 60.4.0esr (64-bit) on my CentOS 7 Linux system with KDE 4.9 desktop environment.

From time to time I'm no more able to scroll the Firefox window with the mouse wheel. I need to change the focus to another window and come back to Firefox to reactivate a proper scrolling, or just minimize and reopen the Firefox window.

A systematic malfunction can also be reproduced as follow: while scrolling is working in Firefox, open another generic application window and then close it so coming back with focus on the Firefox window; scrolling no more works also after clicking on the Firefox window.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Unfortunately the problem is not a Mozilla's concern, but I think a KDE's one.

Indeed, many applications, but not all, suffer of the same problem. For example, the problem is in Firefox but not in Konqueror, in Document Viewer but not in Okular, and so on.

I tried some other applications before asking for help to Mozilla support, but clearly they were the good ones! Sorry, and thank you for your help.

That sounds like a mouse driver issue or bad driver install. Have you check to see if the batteries or software driver is working for the mouse.

Is only the mouse wheel not working (i.e. can you still click links and buttons and drag the scroll thumb)?

Yes cor-el it’s just the mouse wheel not working. Of course I can open another application and then click into the Firefox window and all is working again.

The problem was there also with another mouse

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Thank you cor-el. I’m on mobile now. I’ll follow your instructions asap at home.

You do not really have mouse drivers or software to install like you may be familiar with on Windows 10. Logitech certainly does not provide Linux software for their products like mice for example.

However mice like the usual three or five button with back/forward works as I have a early Logitech MX518 and G Pro Gaming mouse that work fine.

Programmable ones with internal memory can be say done on Windows and then used on Linux.
