I'm having to click on the home button to then search and then a new tab will open.

Hi celina_mg, See if New Tab is in your Customize Panel Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars If it is, just drag it up to your Tab bar

If the missing plus button in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize page to the Tab bar. If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click Restore Defaults in the Customize palette window to restore the default toolbar set.
