Why is Firefox refusing to display Instagram videos?

Windows 7 Home Firefox 115.12.0esr (64-bit) Some Instagram videos play, most don't. E.g. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C8FM6cbOG7v/?mc_cid=e24e48195f

For a fraction of a second, the video shows what appears to be the initial display frame, then goes black. Audio plays. Displays OK on Chrome and Edge.

I've explored the following: Autoplay is allowed Turn off tracking protection Clear cache Clear cookies Digital Rights Management (DRM) is allowed Running in trouble shoot mode, i.e. no extensions Popups not blocked I do not have file user.js I tried hiding prefs.js. Hardware acceleration either on or off: no display

It works for me on Win7. see screenshot What security software are you running?

No third party security software. I tried with Windows Defender and Windows Firewall turned off.

Vivaldi and Brave display Instagram videos OK. Firefox displays videos on other web sites OK. Firefox version 125.0.3 on Windows 10 displays OK.

Since your Windows 7 setup works, there must be an issue in my configuration that collides with Instagram.

Are you allowing audio and video, see "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions"?

Re: "Are you allowing audio and video, see "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions"?" Yes. Actually, all permissions are "Use Default". I haven't tweaked all of them. If bouncing Instagram to Vivaldi gets too tiresome, I'll revisit this issue. E.g., I could compare the prefs.js files and about:config info on my Windows 7 to the info on my Windows 10. But the issue is not worth chasing, since no one else sees it, and only uncouth rustics use Windows 7. (Aside: I installed Windows 10 recently. I can't stand it.)
