Firefox is loading on desktop rather than in Applications during initial download, how do I fix this?

During initial install, Firefox loads on the desktop looking like a drive. It doesn't load into Applications like it is supposed to. From that point it won't let me do anything with it.... Please help- I'm running a new MacBook Pro...
