where are downloaded files stored; how can i copy them

i can't figure out how to do anything with files downloaded in firefox other than open and copy them.

they do not drag and drop.

they do not seem to attach to emails.

I am a Windows user. Not certain Macs are the same but do you get an option to open a containing folder/show in finder. My files are shown in the firefox download manager, that is not the actual location of the files, they are in another folder. (a folder of my choice)
