say i want to download yahoo messager ,i go to that site,click the down load,the pop up window comes ask me what i want to do,i click save file,the download window pops up,what i want to download comes up on it as canceled,i double click on it and it begins to download,once its finished im unable to open it or install it

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.

Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
