Firefox 3.6.24 (for Mac) hangs watching Youtube videos

Firefox 3.6 for Mac hangs (spinning wheel) while watching videos on Youtube.com. There is no problem selecting a video, but once a video starts to play, Firefox shows the spinning wheel if any mouse action is attempted. The video continues to play fine, but no mouse action can be taken. This happens with most, though not all youtube videos.

This started to happen a few days ago (late Oct?) after Youtube made cosmetic changes to its webpages. I am pretty sure that these changes are the cause.

Does anyone else have this problem? Can anyone suggest a workaround?

System: 2009 MacBook Pro, 4GB memory

Notes:

My Safari - an older version 3 - doesn't have this problem. Of course, it doesn't show the new features of the Youtube pages.

I am up-to-date with Adobe Flash Player - version 10 - which I had before the problem began to appear. I cannot try version 11 because I don't have OS X 10.6. I've tried disabling "hardware acceleration" within Flash Player Settings, to no avail.

I haven't changed any of my plugins or extensions, except update DownloadHelper.

I tried a suggestion found in another post to no avail: increase the value of "browser.sessionstore.interval".

I found the cause and the fix !

Apparently, I had somehow "caught" the new Gray Youtube Interface - where the backrounds of all youtube pages are gray.

I cured that ailment by deleting all youtube cookies. Now I have the old youtube pages, and no more hangs !

Isn't there anyone else who experiences hangs with the new youtube interface? I don't want Youtube making my Mac act like an expensive paperweight.
