I installed Firefox 19 from a prior version of Firefox. It now will not play any on line video - youtube or other streaming videos. I can play them all on MS Internet Explorer and in Google Chrome. The add-ons are up to date in Firefox. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox 19 - same problem, no video. I installed latest version of Adobe and Flash Player. Windows 7 is up to date. Ran virus scan, no problem.

Interesting solution. I first checked the version of Flash installed and found that although I had installed and re-installed FlashPlayer 11, I had Flashplayer 10 still installed with Flashplayer 11 plug-in also installed. I uninstalled Flashplayer 10, installed flashplayer 11. Still had the same problem. I then went to the Flashplayer help site and they indicated that their might be a conflict between RealPlayer properties and Firefox. I went to the RealPlayer properties page and cancelled the option to record a video in realplayer from Chrome or Internet Explorer. Now the Flashplayer in Firefox works. The RealPlayer was not active, not on, and it's properties still made a conflict between Firefox and Flashplayer.

For those who took the time to offer advice or propose solutions, thank you very much - I do appreciate it.

On Youtube, could you check whether you are using the Flash or HTML5 version of Youtube? HTML5 trial

In general, you have several different video player plugins. Could you try disabling all but Flash and see whether that makes any difference?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Hi Stephen137, last August RealNetworks issued an update to solve the RealPlayer/Flash conflict in Firefox. I had forgotten to mention that because it has been so long. If you haven't updated RealPlayer for a while, you might want to at some point. http://www.real.com/
