Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 26: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
if possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
- Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Could you describe the circumstances in a little more details: are you closing the last Firefox window (exiting/shutting down Firefox) or are you closing a tab or window and Firefox should normally just keep running?
Often when you get that Windows error, it will have information about the faulting module (or similar terminology). If you see that screen, could you copy the information (select, Ctrl+c or select, right-click, Copy) and paste it here?
I get this error message after I have left any type of window/page and I go back to desktop. I don't get this message when the wife uses IE 10 and goes back to desk top. There's no pattern to getting this message from Firefox. Most of the times it does show up is when I'm reading a news article, I'll finish reading and then I will go back to desk top, and it will pop up. Usually when this happens I will get a blue screen and the pc will reboot itself. I have run memory test from windows 7 and all was good from the test. I keep the pc clean with AVG and Webroot. All test show no problem. I have tried to copy the message for posting, but it will not copy and paste. So I keep it on desktop and copied every word as written for this question post.
Hi ron37115, I didn't realize you got a blue screen error. I agree you can't copy / paste those. You might be able to take a digital photo (with a camera or a camera phone) instead.
When you say you go back to the desktop, are you clicking the red X button to close the window, or just minimizing the window using the _ button (the first of the 3 buttons in the upper right)?
My guess is you are using the red X button. Does it make any difference if you minimize instead? You can reuse the window for a different page by clicking the button for it on the Windows task bar.
But still, you should be able to exit Firefox without a blue screen. I'll be curious to see what it says.
In searching around, I discovered an older thread by another user with a similar error who discovered that the problem actually was with Webroot: "memory error at 0x0237a33c". If you haven't updated Webroot lately, you might need to try that.
You can check the Windows Event log for BSOD errors.
Webroot has the latest drivers and latest version. The message that I get is at the top of this page. It's written just as it appears on the screen.
