Who the hell is Ed Novak and why did Firefox allow him to take control of my computer to put his custom tab add-on on my Firefox?

I tried to get a new tab and all I could get was a page from Ed Novak saying that he wanted me to download his add-on to create a custom tab. I have disabled a preliminary version of his add-on allowing me to side step his email message. I cannot believe Firefox would allow someone to take control of its clients' computer.

hello, could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...
