I've read many other posts on this issue, don't seem to find a solution. So I have to ask. . I'm wanting a different default zoom level other than 100%. I understand Websites create their websites to generic 100%. I have UnTicked "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above",... but this still is not enough to "Have it my way". I have scoured "about:config" for ZOOM and changed many settings to (for say) 115% and this includes removing the 100% from the 3 lists of zoom levels... but oddly it still defaults to 100%. LASTLY: I am trying to do my best to keep ADD-ONS to a minimum, requiring the installation of yet another ADD-ON seems counterproductive. . It seems it be easier to have an eye transplant than getting a simple default zoom of my choice. .

Is there such a thing as a bionic eye that zooms your computer screen? Because sales would be excellent if there were. But I digress.

Firefox has exactly ONE global zoom setting. And by global I mean it governs the user interface area AND the content area. If you would like to increase both, you can adjust this setting but if you only want to increase content size, an extension is the easiest solution.

Global Zoom Setting

The following setting governs both the content area and the "chrome" area (menus, toolbars, and tabs). You can adjust the value, but it might be hard to find just the right number. There's a good chance it will end up being a compromise.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste pix and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and change its value to 1.0 and click OK to save it. This will give you classic 96 dpi fonts. To enlarge that by 10%, double-click and use 1.1 and click OK. And so on. You may want to switch around between windows and tabs to see how it's affecting them.

Be careful not to choose a value between 0 and 1 or you might make the text unreadably small.

Content Zoom Extensions

If you want to increase zoom on websites without changing the size of text and icons in Firefox's toolbar area, you can use an add-on such as one of the following:

After setting your global or default zoom level, you can still fine-tune the zoom on individual sites using Firefox's standard zoom feature (keyboard shortcut or mouse wheel).

In my searches I did experiment with "layout.css.devPixelsPerPx" and it enlarges the toolbars. Not interested in that nor does it scale everything larger like 100% to 112% zoom does. I know about and sometimes use CTRL+LEFT-MOUSE BUTTON zoom when both hands are free. __ I just want the default zoom of 100% changed to 112%. PIX shows the drastic difference.

As I said, there is only one built-in feature. You can use an extension to set a higher default zoom level for content.
